I have been thinking a lot and for quite some time now, about what are the key requirements for an individual to go up the corporate ladder. I don't mention here the qualities but use "requirements" and it is Patience : A very important quality one need to develop to go up the corporate ladder!
If you don't have it then I would advice the young freshers who are new to the corporate jungle to learn and develop that.
Yes, I agree there many key qualities like passion, innovative thinking, knowledge and time management required to be recognized in the corporate jungle but if you don't have patience in addition all these ..... your growth will be shunted.
It is human nature to be selfish and to be egoistic. It is the first step towards 'the survival of the fittest' and it is in the DNA of every human being, how hard you may try to deny the fact but the truth prevails. And this nature only grows up and never diminishes with the hierarchy and power.
Same is the case of arrogance as one gains more knowledge and experience. The one - really bad property of a genius!
These two conditions at times will lead to conflicting situations and only patience can keep your position safe in the organization.
Patience can be developed with an attitude and thinking that " the more I know, the more I realize, how little I know!" This will make you more humble and less arrogant and thus develop the key quality of patience.
Say, for example, just imagine, you have asked to babysit a very naughty child who is a very close relative of yours. You can use all your energy, all your passion and intelligence to handle the child but under a crisis situation if you lose your patience you lose the situation.
In an Indian set up, we have bosses who very old, not like Nadella who are in their 40s. And as one grows old both physically and mentally-they behave like child and some also do need diapers! With childish egos and tempers! So, We need to pamper them!
So the bottom line is " develop the quality of patience and handle the crisis situation with ease! "
