Barcelona: It was the last
home game for Barcelona with Pep Guardiola as their manager and it was
Guardiola’s favorite, Lionel Messi who took it upon to bid his mentor a
fitting farewell netting four goals against Espanyol at Camp Nou on
Saturday.
With that, Messi took his goal tally to a spectacular 72 this season and became only the second player to emulate the feat of scoring more than 70 goals in a division one season. Archie Stark of Bethlehem Steel in the American Soccer League has achieved the remarkable feat way back in 1924-25.

Messi, after scoring his 50th Spanish League goal ran to the sidelines and embraced Guardiola who is leaving the world best team with an enviable record of 13 titles in just four seasons.
"Life has given me this gift during the past five years of being able to live with these players and enjoy this spectacle," Guardiola told the packed stands following his 97th win in 118 home games as quoted by a news agency.
"I have been the privileged one, to feel so loved and admired during all these years. Many thanks to all, above all to those who I have worked with every day." added Pep Guardiola.
