95.47% pass in SSLC in Kerala

SAY examination at select centres from May 12 to 17

As many as 4.42 lakh students have been declared eligible for higher studies in the SSLC examinations, the results of which were announced in a record 19 days on Wednesday.

The success rate in 2014 touched 95.47 per cent, an increase of 1.3 percentage points over the last year’s figure. But, those declared eligible for higher studies this year dipped from last year’s 4.51 lakh.

This year, 14,802 students secured A+ in all subjects, 4,729 more than the corresponding figure for 2013. Last year, 10,073 students secured A+ in all subjects.

Announcing the results here on the day, Education Minister P.K. Abdu Rabb said the success rate among boys this year was 94.44 per cent. It was 96.53 per cent among girls. Moderation, stopped in 2005, was not given this year too, he said.

The pass percentage among private candidates dipped by 11.25 percentage points from last year to touch 62.81. There were 4,534 private students.

Of the 334 students who took the examination in the aurally challenged category, 333 were declared eligible for higher studies (99.17 per cent).

In the Government of Kerala Technical High School Leaving Certificate (THSLC) examination, 96.49 per cent of the 3,647 candidates became eligible for higher studies. Of the 24 students who wrote the THSLC examination for the aurally challenged, 22 became eligible for higher studies (91.6 per cent).

In the Art High School Leaving Certificate Examination (AHSLC), the success rate went up from last year’s 81.96 to 94.7 per cent as 72 of the 76 students who took the examination were declared eligible for higher studies.

Mr. Rabb said 35 ‘adopted schools’ in the State registered 100 per cent success.

Kannur posted the highest success rate — 98.27 per cent — among the revenue districts and Kaduthuruthy with 98.68 per cent among the educational districts.

Among the revenue districts, the highest number of students who secured A+ for all subjects — 2,056 — was from Malappuram. Tirur where 919 candidates bagged A+ for all subjects came first on the list of educational districts.

The lowest success rate — in revenue and educational districts categories — was in Palakkad. It was 91.28 per cent and 90.25 per cent respectively.

As many as 89.52 per cent of the Scheduled Caste candidates gained eligibility for higher studies and 329 got A+ in all papers. Among Scheduled Tribe students, the pass percentage was 84.30 and 13 got A+ grade. Among OBC candidates, the pass percentage was 95.96 and 8,438 got A+ in all subjects.

As many as 934 schools registered 100 per cent success. These included 281 government schools (an increase of 7), 367 aided schools (an increase of 40), and 286 unaided schools (an increase of 26). As many as 4,63,686 students — 2,35,983 boys and 2,27,703 girls-appeared for the examination.

The ‘Save A Year’ (SAY) examination for those who gained eligibility for higher studies would be held at select centres from May 12 to 17. Applications for this could be submitted from April 24 to 28 to the respective headmasters. Applications for photocopy, revaluation, and scrutiny of the answer sheets may be submitted online from April 24 to 28 till 1 p.m. The certificates of the students will be made available at the District Education Office concerned by May 15. Mr. Rabb said the government would take steps to commence Plus One courses in more schools.
