Drishyam

Must Watch+

Movie:Drishyam

Director: Jeethu Joseph (Memories, Mummy and me , My Boss)
Written by: Jeethu Joseph
Starring: Mohanlal, Meena, Kalabhavan Shajon, Siddique, Asha Sharath, Ansiba
Language: Malayalam

Story: The story revolves around a farmer family headed by Georgekutty (Mohanlal) and the ordeals they go through and how they overcome under the smart leadership of  Georgekutty.

Georgekutty is an orphan, who has only passed class four but he is shown to be all in all by learning everything from watching movies (He is the local cable operator and big movie buff). It may look bit absurd but a very convincing script and great acting by Mohanlal, that makes it is very much believable, and the director is able to keep the audience seat-glued and awe stuck. I personally believe that if it were any other actor, it would not have worked. The calm, composed, natural and highly underacting (opposite of overacting!!) by Mohanlal was the biggest highlight of the movie.

Negatives: The reason for crisis may look bit artificial...... but the way they overcome that in the second half after interval is beautifully scripted and all actors delivered as per the script. First Half is a bit bore and slow and has lot of philosophy!  but it very crucial to build strong foundation of the character of Georgekutty. You won't realise that critical link until the movie is over and you come out theatre and think about it for a while. The first half wins the audience hearts for innocent Georgekutty and they stand by him in the second half! And if you sit through the interval you are sure to be seat glued in second half.

Many questions may be asked ...like how come nobody saw what Georgekutty (Mohanlal) did -what he did-in the suspense part, How was it all conducive to carry out all the actions as planned?! But no questions please- none should be asked - just watch the story beautiful unfold- like you are unlocking a puzzle- no logics please!

Not a family movie-small amount of violence. Parental guidance is highly advised!

Positives: The director is able to show the contrasting families -one in village and one in town, one poor and weak- representing the common man-and one powerful and rich-too good. The director has brought the best out of Mohanlal and Kalabhavan Shajon. Good Job Sir!

Kalabhavan Shajon is unbelievably too good to be true kind of acting!

Sarcism: The director really makes fun of the Indian education system, media, consumerist society and the police and the complete Indian system as a whole.

The movie is an open mockery of the Indian police, media and judicial system! The political gurus and so called Indian intellectual class has to think about this serious loopholes in the existing system.

The contrasting ideal citizen and corrupt policeman fight-Irony-Ideal citizen fighting for what is wrong, to hide the truth and corrupt policeman fighting for right, to get to bottom of the truth. Great. Incredible!

I think it is just more "must watch" - but you may enjoy it watching it again as the suspense is out, unless you appreciate the film at the techincal levels of camera, editing, scripting and acting!

A real Malayalam film deserves to be called a must learner's archive!

Those who have power to change things don't bother to;and those who bother don't have the power to do so .................but I think It is a very thin line that divides the two and I am walking on that.Well is pure human nature to think that "I am the best and my ideas unquestionable"...it is human EGO and sometimes it is very important for survival of the fittest and too much of it may attract trouble.Well here you decide where do I stand.I say what I feel.
